We sang the hymn in R.S. sunday. I've always liked the melody, but then I'm a sucker for the minor key. After church thought about Kolob. Where is it? Who lives there? Had friends over for dinner, got into discussion about 'other' beings living on 'other planets' & maybe visiting us here on earth. UFO's...they believe in them....dad, not so much! He thinks it's satan posing to deceive us. What do you think? Me, I think it's entirely possible other of Heavenly Father's children are more advanced than us & want to come and straighten us out occasionally. But not exactly sure! Az & N.M are hotbeds of 'sightings' ...even famous for them. I have an open mind.
Anyway, back to Kolob. I got out 'good ole "Mormon Doctrine" (can't beat Bruce R. for easy info) Kolob is the nearest planet next to the celestial kingdom where Heavenly Father lives. So I assume it's close enough for a quick weekend visit every now and then. "Dear, let's take a get-a-way next weekend to Kolob, they have the best halo polish".
So, can you wrap your mind around the billions, even trillions of 'earths' that have been & are still being created and all those people who live there and all the galaxies needed? I can barely believe there are other countries on the other side of our own planet! This has the potential of being a very interesting discussion or is it my mind on sleep deprivation (check the time stamp!)

I have a lot of thoughts on this one, but not enough time this a.m. ( as I type 1 handed while bolting toast). Have you ever read "Return from Tomorrow"? Interesting perspectives and at one point he may be describing Kolob.
I digress about minor keys...I love "Ring Out Wild Bells" when we get to sing it on New Year's Sunday. It isn't a "mormon-y" song in the least but full of atmospherics.
The lady in charge of typing up our bulletin (OR the lady that gives her the info) often gets the special musical numbers or choir selections typed in wrong. A few weeks ago we had a song entitled (wrongly) "If You Could Hike to Heaven". So obviously Kolob is pretty darn close. Hiking distance?
My personal favorite was last year when she had our choir singing "All Glory, Blood and Honor" (instead of "All Glory, Laud and Honor").
